There were some
questions on habitats in your SATS in May 2009. Today 8th April 2010, year 6 SATS is not too far away.

Habitats.
Q: What is a habitat?
A: The natural home of a plant or an animal, is called the habitat.
For e.g. the humans live in houses and
flats and other kinds of shelters, which depend from country to country. Eskimos of course live in igloos, which are made,
up of nothing but ice. And that is their habitat.
Fish (salmon, trout, cod, sharks and
whales) all live in water.
Q: What is the habitat of fishes?
Birds live in nests that mean their
home in a nest, where they lay eggs and raise chicks.
Ducks spend most of their time in water
for feeding, but actually they lay their eggs on dry land in a nest.

Note: Rainforests are the habitats of
lots of animals.
It is possible to have questions on

is not too far away.

Plants and animals get used to the
surrounding where they live and this is known as adaptations. Animals and
plants have some special features that help them survive in a particular
environment.
Q : How do you say a
fish is adapted to live in water?
Answer : A fish got adopted
to live in water because it can swim by using fins, breathe through gills.
There are lot more but these are just basic things.
Q: Is a duck adapted live on water?
A: What about a duck? It has webbed feet to swim and a beak is
adopted for eating.
Q: Why do you say a lizard is adapted to in it’s surrounding?
A: A lizard has a pair of eyes that can see in a wide angle, a
long flexible tongue to pick up insects.
Q: Camels live in deserts, how are they adapted to live in
desert?
A: A camel has long thin legs. It has no fat under the skin. It
can drink lots of water at a time so that it can travel for miles in the hot
desert.
Activity: Fill in the missing letters.
Polar bears have white fur and lots of
body - - t. So that it can withstand - - - -.
Cactus plants have long thin spikes and
these are supposed to be its leaves.
What about a tortoise? It has a very
thick - - e- - for p - o - - c - - o -.
Did you know that?
Some animals have their body colour
matching the surrounding so that it can prey easily on other animals and also
avoid getting it preyed by other animals.
